Tidewater Pastoral Counseling Services offers Pre-Marriage Seminars for couples who plan to be married. Couples who are already married may also attend. The 2012-2013 seminars will be conducted by Marty Phillips and Amber Carver. Marty is the current Executive Director of TPCS. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and a member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors at the Fellow level. He has been licensed in Virginia and working with couples and families for over eighteen years. Amber is a resident counselor. She has a Masters in Counseling from Regent Univeristy.

The all-day seminars are designed to help you and your partner become acquainted on a deeper level of understanding. Discussions focus on the central issues of modern marriage, expectations for your future together and how to resolve the inevitable conflicts that come with day-to-day living.

Participants have the advantage of learning their own personality styles, using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. As you gain understanding about your own individuality and that of your partner, you become more able to accept each other's feelings, ideas and behaviors.

The Pre-Marriage Seminars emphasize openness as the key to a satisfying relationship. Practice sessions will teach fair, honest ways of communicating without competing.

More than 100 couples attended the Pre-Marriage Seminars last year, and 98% said they "would definitely recommend the seminar to other couples like themselves who were getting married!"
